Here we have Hamish the West highland white terrier.

West highland white terrier

We had our first West highland white terrier in the studio a few weeks ago.  And this was just shortly after a West highland white terrier won crufts this year!  Hamish was a beautifully proud dog, and an absolute star on the sofa!  His white fur looked amazing against the wrm brown backgrund, and he even felt quite at home posing for his Fine Art Pet Portraits with a few props thrown in!

Another name for the West highland white terrier is  Westie, or Westy.  Originally bred in Scotland, they are  originally used to hunt foxes and vermin.  Hard to believe with such an attractive dog, and they are also well known for their friendly and outgoing personality.  They know they are good looking, and move around with an air of grace and purpose.  Just the way that Hamish holds his head up high shows his conficence.  Just gorgeous!

One thing that we always try to achieve with our clients is a range of gorgeous portraits that truly captures the various expressions, and therefore personalities of their pets.

Sometimes it is hard to choose which images portray this most, in which case we leave in the variety and let you do the choosing!

Photograph below of the gorgeous Pepsi who is a Blue Roan Cocker Spaniel.

Blue Roan Cocker Spaniel

We welcomed Pepsi who is a Blue Roan Cocker Spaniel for his portrait recently.  Unfortunately Pepsi had to reschedule his original appointment due to illness and life saving surgery.  It was therefore extra special that he was able to come and have his portraits taken, and in fact, as is the case so many times, he was full of beans and seemed oblivious to the trauma that he had just undergone.

A Blue Roan Cocker Spaniel is a gentle and loving character, and once you have owned a Blue Roan Cocker Spaniel I have been told you will always stick with that breed.  Further information about Blue Roan Cocker Spaniel can be found here.

Peps was definitely a character!  He decided if and when he wanted to go on the chaise, and spent alot of time exploring his surroundings and having us all follow him!  Its always great to have a dog with big character in the studio, as that way we get to see there real characteristics and in this case, inquisitiveness.

Whenever we have a dog come in for their Portrait with us, we spend time making a fuss of the dog, and checking that they are happy with their surroundings.  We have had so many people regret not having a professional portrait doen of their beloved dog, and both of us feel priveledged to be able to create such lasting pieces of art to be admired for generations.

Tosca (Labrador) and Poppy (Cocker Spaniel) came to the studio and did their owners proud! “You will never get a photo of them together” they said …  we rose to the challenge (as we always do) and we got several of them together – our favourite one is shown above, with matching smiles!. We often get owners saying that to us and we have now become quite famous for getting beautiful portraits in our Surrey studio of multiple dogs! The most we have had so far is 6 Lurchers and an entire litter of 7 spaniels – we are never defeated and haven’t failed yet (she says madly touching wood!).

So Tosca the Foxy Yellow Labrador is 11 years old – that’s 70 in human years – his owners describe him as lovable & loyal, loves his food (don’t all Labradors??) and hates the vets! I feel the same way about dentists!

Poppy is an Orange Roan Cocker Spaniel, a mere youngster at 3 years old. Apparently she is cocky (like that! A Cocky Cocker!), cuddly and attention seeking (bit like my daughter!). Her owners say she is totally fearless (definitely like my daughter!).

Fun facts about Cocker Spaniels:

Bobby the Beautiful Collie cross

Bobby the Beautiful Collie cross

Bobby the Beautiful Collie cross

Bobby is a collie crossed with a corgi – just gorgeous!  He was fully Collie in looks, with shorter legs, and just the most amazing gentle and inquisitive nature.  He came in with two of his owners, and had an extrememly close bond with Chloe, seen here in the photographs.

Collies by nature are an intelligent working breed, known for their intensity and zeal for working.  The Corgi, most famously owned by the Royal family, are agreeable, fun and a pleasure to walk, and a very noble breed.  If Bobby the Collie cross was anything to go by, the calming corgi influence was just a dream.

We dont always photograph pet and owner together, but I think that you’ll agree here that their bond is just delightful!  We all love our dogs, as a nation it’s a given to have a dog accompanying any long walk in the countryside, it’s certainly one of the great pleasures in life.

Thank you Bobby, it was a pleasure to meet you, and we look forward to the next Dog who comes to our studio for their unique Dog Portrait in our Fine Art specialist Dog phptohraphy studio.
