Look at these cute Smooth haired miniature dachschund puppies!

Smooth haired miniature dachschund puppies

We have in fact welcomed many Smooth haired miniature dachschunds to the studio, but rarely three of them this young!  The Smooth haired miniature dachschund puppies were 8 1/2 weeks old at the shoot.  The ideal age for this kind of session is 6-8 weeks, once the puppies are alert and aware, but still tire quickly and have a crazy moment running around.  This breed are known for their strength of character, they are loyal, bold and strong characters, protective of their owners, and sometimes surprisingly vocal and charismatic, especially considering their smaller size.

Its a breed that I have definitely fallen in love with through the many dachshunds that have visited the studio over the past year.  If you are looking for a dog that can fit through the catflap, but at the same time offer you a bold and brave character who will be full of loving, then this is a dog to be considered.

It is actually quite hard to find Smooth haired miniature dachschund puppies when you have made that decision, as they are certainly growing hugely in popularity at the moment.  Nice to see a resurgence of such a wonderful breed.  We love the Smooth haired miniature dachschund puppies!

Wow, wow, wow – or should I say BOW WOW WOW – chuffed is not the word! Doing a happy dance and punching the air!

The Guild of Photographers runs a monthly national competition to find the Photographer of the Year. Each month you have to enter 3 images  which are assessed by a full Panel of highly experienced Judges who grade them in accordance with international judging criteria. Very pleased to announce that this image of Boris won a SILVER in the competition! It is extremely difficult to get a silver, hence the happy dance!!

It is also very fitting that Boris has qualified for Crufts this year so hopefully that will be a double win for him!!  It is thrilling to win awards and hopefully there will be many more this year.

Boris is a Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer – an elegant & noble breed as well as cute and adorable! He was amazing in the studio & proudly hangs in 2 frames in the reception. I will be avidly watching Crufts to track his progress … not long now …  Not sure I will get much work done – will have to take the laptop to the telly and pretend!

If you want  an award winning image to hang on your wall then click here to buy a voucher … or just call/email on the contact page and book your pup in! Based near Farnham, Surrey the Artful Dog Studio  is specially designed for dogs and only dogs (occasionally an owner creeps into a shot … but we allow that!). All the dogs and owners enjoy the experience:   laughter, adrenalin and often tears permeate into the studio … it really is a wonderful experience so come and join in the fun.

“An enjoyable afternoon watching my dog “pose” for his photos – he really seemed to enjoy the whole experience.

A walk afterwards however ended in him in rather a muddy state – back to normal!”  Pauline.

Patterdale and Sharpei: Piper & Holly

Patterdale and SharPei – Piper and HollyPatterdale and SharpeiThese two gorgeous ‘best friends’ came into the our studio – Piper is a Sharpei / Patterdale cross and Holly a Beddlington/Spaniel cross. They were both absolute stars. I think I fell a little bit in love with Holly (Sharpei on the right)!!

Holly kept snuggling up to me throughout the shoot – who could not fall in love with her? So pleased to have captured that wonderful expressive face. I really wanted to take her home with me.

You can definitely see the Patterdale in Piper – we are always told that black dogs are always tricky to photograph outside of the studio so it’s always a delight when we can capture the ‘black dog’ and see it’s true ‘colours’ (excuse the pun!!) and personality. We are constantly being told that all they have is an iPhone picture of a black blob!! Not the case for our gorgeous Piper – he looks so alert and the those eyes melt the heart!

If you have a Black dog and all you have are pictures of a black blob then bring them into the studio and we can give you the portrait you have always wanted! Perhaps we should have a ‘black blob’ promotion!! Visit our ‘Bow-wowchers‘ page to buy your your portrait session – tell us you have a Black Blob and we will give you 10% of frames when you come in! We are based just outside Farnham in Surrey within a bone throw of Waverley Abbey – an English Heritage Site just on our doorstep. Woof!

“A big thank you to The Artful Dog Studio. I had such a good day today getting my gang photographed, can’t wait to see the finished prints, and I hope you have recovered! x” Pauline

Portrait of Two Black Labradors

Portrait two black labradors

Two Black Labradors Harvey and Paisley recently visited us in The Artful Dog Studio for their portrait. They had a great time sniffing around our dog friendly studio, before eventually stopping to pose for some portraits.

Having two strong-willed black labradors in the studio is not the easiest subject to photograph, however, luckily Jenny and I are experienced with all breeds of dog, big and small, quiet and shy, or bouncy and energetic. Every dog requires a slightly different approach, but as yet we have never failed!

Paisley was recovering post op, there was a time when we were not sure if you would even come at all, so it was lovely to welcome them both for their studio portrait.

Harvey, Paisley’s rescue pal, was just as gorgeous, and in fact proved to be the poser of the two, taking the whole thing easily in his stride and willing to cooperate.

The frame that was purchased was as a gift for Valentine’s Day. I would love to have seen his reaction! It’s not necessarily something that you would think of, having a portrait of your dog done for a gift, but what an amazing present it makes. I think you’ll agree these portraits of black labradors are gorgeous.

If you would like to find out more about having your own dogs photographed then please get in touch either on the contact page by email or by calling us, or you can buy a gift voucher here.
